The Biden administration is close to approving the shipment of longer-range missiles packed with cluster bombs to Ukraine, giving Kyiv the ability to cause significant damage deeper within Russian-occupied territory, according to four U.S. officials. After seeing the success of cluster munitions delivered in 155 mm artillery rounds in recent months, the U.S. is considering shipping either or both Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) that can fly up to 190 miles (306 km), or Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) missiles with a 45-mile range packed with cluster bombs, three U.S. officials said.If approved, either option would be available for rapid shipment to Kyiv.Ukraine is currently equipped with 155 millimeter artillery with a maximum range of 18 miles carrying up to 48 bomblets. The ATACMS under consideration would propel around 300 or more bomblets. The GMLRS rocket system, a version of which Ukraine has had in its arsenal for months, would be able to disperse up to 404 cluster munitions.

JUST IN: Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled a Russian offensive near Avdiivka, inflicting major losses on the enemy. Reports indicate that Russian forces lost 50 tanks, 100 armored vehicles, and 900 personnel during the attacks. Despite the aggression, the pace of offensive operations has decreased, signaling positive developments. Avdiivka's strategic significance cannot be understated, making this defense a significant setback for the Russian offensive. The international community must prioritize a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life. #Ukraine #ConflictUpdate #PeacefulResolution To learn more and read the complete story, click on this link.https://lnkd.in/gKuiEn2n

New insights into the ongoing counteroffensive & the war.In my opinion a very accurate analysis✔ Ukrainian forces have still not mastered combined arms operations at scale. Operations are more sequential than synchronized. This creates various problems for the offense & IMO is the main cause for slow progress. ✔Minefields are a problem as most observers know. They confine maneuver space & slow advances. But much more impactful than the minefields per se on Ukraine’s ability to break through Russian defenses is 🇺🇦s inability to conduct complex combined arms operations at scale. ✔Lack of a comprehensive combined arms approach at scale makes Ukrainian forces more vulnerable to Russian ATGMs, artillery etc. while advancing. So it's not just about equipment. There’s simply no systematic pulling apart of the Russian defensive system that I could observe. ✔Russian forces, even if severely degraded & lacking ammo, are likely capable of delaying, containing or repulsing individual platoon- or company-sized Ukrainian advances unless these attacks are better coordinated & synchronized along the broader frontline. ✔Quality of Russian forces varies. Attrition is hitting them hard but they are defending their positions well, according to Ukrainians we spoke to. They have been quite adaptable at the tactical level and are broadly defending according to Soviet/Russian doctrine. ✔Quality of Ukrainian officers and NCOs we met appears excellent & morale remains high. However, there are some force quality issues emerging with less able bodied & older men called up for service now. ✔The narrative that Ukrainian progress thus far is slow just because of a lack of weapons deliveries and support is monocausal & is not shared by those we spoke to actually fighting & exercising command on the frontline. #ukraine #ukrainewar #warinukraine

This week, Ukraine received new pledges from the United States (300 million USD) and the European Union (5 billion EUR) aimed at reinforcing its battlefield capabilities. The Czech initiative to procure artillery shells for Ukraine gained popularity, with Sweden and Portugal voicing their willingness to contribute funds. The ammunition acquired through this initiative is expected to reach Ukraine in June. Meanwhile, experts estimate that the shortage in munitions for its defenses may soon force Ukraine to aim for only 1 out of every 5 missiles fired by Russian forces.#ukraine #ukrainewar #ukrainerussiawar #russia

Ukraine still has enough able-bodied male citizens that can be mobilized but recruiting, training, equipping, and paying them costs a lot of money. Increasing the number of recruits also negatively affects the economy. The solution to these problems is simple:If we give Ukraine more and better weapons (Taurus cruise missiles, F-16s, etc.) and, at the same time deliver millions of artillery shells, they’ll need less troops to defend their territory.https://qr.ae/psHWqd

4 am, Kyiv, heavy sounds of explosions. Today we woke up not from the alarm clock, again. Eight Russia-launched ballistic missiles were shot by our brave defenders using Western air-defense systems. The war continues, and it can be heard and felt even in the capital of Ukraine, which is relatively far from the frontline. There is no sign Russia is willing to stop. Moreover, West's reluctance to provide Ukraine with more military support encourages Putin and his army to move forward. If not stopped now, Russia will win this war, kill thousands, forcibly mobilize millions, and turn its guns toward the West. Additionally, it will show that brute force is tolerated by the civilized world, so frozen conflicts all over the globe will turn into hot ones. Russia must be stopped until it's too late.

"Both sides are using more ammunition than they can supply. But unlike in Europe or the US, Moscow’s economy is on a war footing, allowing industry to pump out shells, drones and other weapons more consistently." - A good analysis of the balance of forces, but has a key mistake, like many Western politicians and analysts. Putin and the Kremlin do not need negotiations with Ukraine, they need subjectivity and they are really preparing for a long-term war. And in terms of resources, and not directly, this is a war against the West. And if the West wants to maintain world order, it must win this war and neutralize threats to Russia.https://lnkd.in/dPd5kP4W
